Halloween

About 6 months ago I showed Ruby the movie Mary Poppins for the first time & I couldn't believe how much she loved it. She watched the whole thing either wide eyed or laughing. It was adorable & so we decided a long time ago that she would be Mary Poppins for Halloween. We also decided that Noah would make a pretty adorable Bert. Those two killed it in those costumes & both of them loved dressing up. I was shocked at how long Noah carried his chimney sweeper while trick or treating. He had a death grip on it as well as his candy bucket. Yesterday as we went from house to house with the kids bubbling with excitement, I thought about how these really are the good years. I love Halloween with little kids who are so excited about every little thing that comes with it. And I can't even handle how cute these two are in coordinating costumes. It is going to be a sad year when they won't let me dress them up together. Some pictures from the big day:

Ruby Quotes

Here are a few of Ruby's latest one liners:

"Noah, I command you to stop screaming."

"Dad, thanks for turning my frown upside down, and making it into a smile."

As Ruby rides on her hobby horse: "Come on Noah, let's go horse around."

"Noah, I think I pretty much love you."

When Noah was crying at bedtime: "It's okay Noey, it's just night time."

As she climbs on a rock, "Look mom! I'm kind of like the star of the show."

It's Finally Happening

It's finally starting to cool down just a little around here & the kids have been loving getting to play outside again. The lingering bits of summer are rough when we're stir crazy & ready for a change of pace. So even if it's still in the 90s during the day, we'll take it! The kids are all about their scooters right now & Ruby rides like a mad woman on hers up & down our street while Noah trails behind. He wants to do everything he sees her doing & learns so much from her. We're also having a major baseball moment at our house. The kids love to play in the backyard with their bats & tee ball stands & hit "homeruns". Those two have gotten pretty good at it. Noah is obsessed with Mickey Mouse right now. He loves to sing the "Hotdog" song over & over & has this crazy ability to spot Mickey anywhere & everywhere we go. Ruby is loving preschool & is so excited to go. Whenever I pick her up she comes running her fastest to me & yells, "Mommy!!" & gives me a huge hug. It's basically one of the best parts of my day & I'm going to be really sad when she gets over it. Noah is becoming more & more of a 2 year old & is really loving the word "No!" lately. I have to make a conscious effort not to smile or laugh when he acts naughty. And I fake cry at least once a day because he gets this little smile on his face like he knows I'm joking, but he'll always come over & give me a kiss. He's kind of my dream boy. Life is awfully good with these two.

This & That

I loved picking these two up from their classes at church today & seeing how happy & cute they were in their little crowns. Ruby said the scripture in Primary today & was so nervous she was sick to her stomach. We talked a lot about it & tried to prep her as much as possible & I was so proud of her for getting up & doing it. She never ceases to amaze me with the way she faces her fears & is so brave. I'm so proud of these 2 children of mine & the little people they are becoming. They have such bright, happy spirits & are kind & good.

Little Things I Want to Remember

These two (especially Noah) are still obsessed with Frozen. Noah wakes up in the morning & we can hear him in his crib belting out "Let It Go". And Ruby spends most days in either her Elsa or Anna dresses. And I kind of want this movie to just go away forever...& sometimes in our home, certain (loud) Frozen toys mysteriously disappear.

I just can't even believe how grown up this 4 year old of mine seems these days. She is becoming such a big help to me & is a little mama to Noah. The other day she helped me decorate for Halloween & she couldn't even contain her excitement. She loved every minute of it & I did too. She's a girl after my own heart.

Noah adores his dad & wants to do everything Tyler does. He was so proud of himself after he mowed the lawn & I love peeking out my window at this view. He is always outside with Tyler when he's doing yard work & loves to be his helper.

We often refer to Ruby as Anne of Green Gables & love her sweet nature. She has the most vivid imagination & loves to play make believe with whatever toys she can find. She is so expressive & talks to me all day long. And I love hearing what's going on in that awesome mind of hers.

And this boy. I love the way he already tries to take care of me. He has me wrapped around his finger for sure. I've heard people say before that children who sing are happy children. If that's true, then he is one happy boy. He has been singing 24/7 these days.

Noah Turns 2

Today Noah is 2 years old! This morning we all went into his room when he woke up & sang "Happy Birthday" to him. He had a huge smile on his face & loved yelling "2!" every time we asked him how old he was. This little boy is such a joy in our family & we adore him & his fun-loving personality. We loved celebrating him today. Happy Birthday Noah, we love you!

Noah, here are a few things I want you to remember:
1. You've been blessed with such a happy disposition. Live your life in a way that you'll never lose that.
2. Have more than you show. Speak less than you know.
3. Spend time in nature. It will bring you closer to God & help you see things more clearly.
4. Celebrate other people's success.
5. Work hard. It helps you feel good about yourself & hard work solves a lot of problems.
